about

First perfected by Mozart, the ‘classic’ serenade spread its wings with Dvořák although it had to be demurely toned down to gain the approval of the royal salons. Village fete music and bandstand concerts alongside waltzes and minuets. Cheerful, although far from frivolous, challenging Dante who said it was impossible to describe paradise. A tribute to Sir Neville Marriner (1924-2016) and the Czech approach to wind instruments.
