about

Richter’s teacher Heinrich Neuhaus introduced him to pianist Vladimir Sofronitsky, the spiritual son of Scriabin. Toasting a new friendship required an exchange of insults, and the story goes that Sofronitsky obligingly hailed Richter as a ‘genius’, whereby the latter reciprocated by calling him a ‘god’! These pieces by Scriabin played by Richter provide fitting proof of that lofty exchange of ‘insults’. Sit back and enjoy their intoxicating charm.
